BIOGRAPHY

Marcelle Mapp, a graduate of Bishop’s High School Tobago, entered the University of the West Indies in 1976 and graduated with a B. Sc degree in Management Studies in1979. She subsequently returned to her native Island and began her teaching career at Signal Hill Senior Comprehensive School Tobago in 1979 as a Principles of Accounts (POA) teacher.

After two years and subsequent to marriage, she transferred to Belmont Boys Secondary School Port-of-Spain and spent twenty-three illustrious years there. She left in 2004 holding the post of principal having gained experience as dean, head of department and Vice-principal (1999). During her tenure at Belmont, she pursued the Diploma of Education 1986 and the Master’s of Education degree from 2002-2004. On the acquisition of her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of the West Indies, she was appointed principal of Sixth Form Government School (Polytechnic Institute) in 2004 and continued there until her retirement in 2014.

During her career, Mrs. Mapp championed the concepts of continuous learning and encouraged her staff to pursue the Diploma in Education, Master’s degrees and experience CAPE marking among other areas of Professional Development. Other whole school initiatives were: Developing a Parent School Partnership, Changing the Culture of the Classroom, Use of Technology in Schools for the Delivery of the Curriculum.

She became well known as a Transformational Leader among her staff members and colleagues. Mrs. Mapp had been involved in ISIVCF as a sponsor throughout her 35-year teaching career. At whatever level of her profession, she ensured there was an ISCF group at the institution. Many students are ever grateful for the fellowship they enjoyed at school. At present she is the Indigenous Support Development Representative for IFES in the Caribbean. Mrs. Mapp has been married to Kelvin Mapp for 43 years and is the mother of three (3) daughters – Christal, Emerald and Jewelle and is a grandmother of two.
